Have you been wanting the Italian cypress look with a plant that thrives in the Southeast? Check out Sting arborvitae, one of our favorite new native plants from the 2024 season.
Sting grows 20′ tall and only 18″ wide, making it ideal for framing entryways or for a stately look along your driveway. Turn your home into an estate with this tall, narrow evergreen.
One rule to remember is that the more narrow a plant is, the more formal the look. We love the look of them alongside a house between the windows or on each side of a doorway. They also can be used for a formal privacy screen, which would be perfect for yards where space is a premium. Space about 1.5′ apart to create a full screen.
Full sun preferred but they are fine with a little shade.
Other narrow evergreens that do great in the Asheville area include DeGroots Spire arborvitae, Sky Pencil holly, and North Pole arborvitae.
